With excellent results over the past 2 months and an Australian Age ranking of 8. Lachy Ferguson has been offered an associate scholarship with Tennis Australia within the National Academy based at the State Tennis Centre, Tennyson.
He will travel extensively again this year privately or part of the academy or national team.
Presentaion to ‘Champions of the Future” on centre court at the Brisbane International. - Lachy 7 from left. Lachy is now training four days per week at Tennyson plus his technical coach, Greg Smith of Matchpoint Tennis, works closely with the Academy Coaches. Lachlans assigned Academy Coach and Mentor will probably be Scott Draper (unconfirmed at this time). This of course means big lifestyle changes for the Fergusons. Currently they are travelling over 1100klms per week to cover both school and Tennis commitments. Lachy has withdrawn from the tennis academy at Kelvin Grove State College but is still enrolled as a fulltime student. The National Academy has full time Tutors available and will work with Lachy’s school and teachers as needs demand. There is a distance education option available if the Tennis Schedule becomes too great, but keeping it all as normal as possible, is the main aim at this point. The Fergusons move in to an Apartment at Tennyson Reach at the end of February, being right next to the State Tennis Centre, which will make it all very manageable. Lachy will have a 3 minute walk to the Academy and a 15 minute train ride to school. No more 5am starts this year, although most mornings will see an early Gym session for both Lachy and Craig. Regular updates will be sent to the Grapevine and of course Lachy will always be a ‘Local” by birth and spirit. Thank you to all of Lachys supporters and friends and he will be constantly in contact with you all. |
