- The first step in health and fitness resolutions
As the new year is beginning, running shoes are getting dusted off to signify the beginning of many health and fitness kicks around the country.  Unfortunately, for various reasons including lower limb pain, the motivation for exercise quickly runs dry.
Being able to walk or run pain-free is a crucial part in the success of any fitness resolutions.
We all know that exercise helps achieve and maintain health and vitality.  Regular exercise significantly reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, controls blood sugar, improves bone health, and reduces the likelihood of some cancers.  Regular exercise also boosts mood, energy, improves sleeping, is great for weight loss and can help treat depression.  Activities like running or walking can be the best medicine and they are free!
However, beginning an exercise regime is often done too hastily and with a lack of information and guidance.  Many people begin exercise regimes with great intentions but foot, leg and knee pain often bring them to a grinding halt.  One can also be fearful or reluctant to begin any sort of exercise because of the pains that ensue.  These include aching legs and feet, heel pain, Achilles tendinitis, and painful knees and hips to name a few.
The Woodford and Dayboro practices of Sergio Gonzalez Podiatry have a focus on injury prevention, biomechanics, gait and postural analysis, and sports and exercise science.  This will ensure that you can walk pain-free and are best equipped to achieve your goals.
Tips for Beginning Walking or Running:
- Set specific, realistic and achievable goals
- Treat any foot and leg pains promptly.
- Have shoes and gait assessed, “ If in doubt, check it out.”
- Exercise with friends and have fun!
Call 3425 1777 for an appointment on Thursday, Friday, Saturday in Dayboro and Monday, Wednesday in Woodford.
