The Bureau of Meteorology has launched a new user-friendly layout for its website.
Moreton Bay Regional Council is encouraging local residents to log-on to the website at www.bom.gov.au/qld.
Mayor Allan Sutherland said now was the perfect time to add the page to your internet favourites, or computer homepage.
“Current weather warnings, forecasts and radar images are displayed in a new easily-to-find format,” the Mayor said.
“The Bureau of Meteorology’s website is a great resource that everybody should have at their fingertips.
“I encourage local residents to become familiar with the site and stay up-to-date with the latest weather warnings.”
Mayor Sutherland said Moreton Bay Regional Council's new alert system - MoretonAlert - was now operational.
Recently, MoretonAlert had its first test in real-time with a severe thunderstorm and flash-flooding warning from the Bureau sent to registered users of the system,” the Mayor said.
“Almost 1,000 residents in key areas have already registered to receive messages by SMS, phone and e-mail.
“Local residents are encouraged to sign-up to the system at www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/MoretonAlert.”
A council Facebook page and Twitter account had also been established to provide information to residents during significant disaster events.
