The inaugural show of the North Pine Poultry Club Inc. was held on Sunday 18th April, 2010 and was a great success. Even though it required an enormous amount of work both before, during and after, it is an event that will remain in the memories of many for a long time.
The committee would like to thank everyone who willingly gave of their time to help pull it together including members, spouses and friends.
A huge number of entries were received particularly in the last couple of days prior to closing date. Even with some extra pens from storage at the Dayboro Showgrounds, we were forced to turn away more than 75 entries. The standard of the entries was excellent and we were encouraged by the support of so many breeders of high standing in the poultry community. Results and Awards have been posted on our website at www.northpinepoultryclub.com . At the April club meeting we featured Croad Landshans from Tom Trim & Peter Gambell. Croad Langshans were imported from China in about 1872 by Major Croad. They are a good utility bird and lay a brown egg of around 65-80 grams, laying between 180 and 220/30 per year and can lay well for many years. The CL has been historically used for meat as it has white skin and a good textured flesh. They are slow growing – putting on about a pound a month and are not fully grown until around 2 years of age. Birds have a gentle temperament and perform best on basic food – whole wheat, grain and grit.
