November Ride Report
The clubs last ride for 2011 attracted 18 riders.  It was a nice, clear day but not too hot.  We left the show grounds via Stewarts, Craigs and Hamilton Road, crossed Mt Pleasant Road, Gregs across the Pine River, Riverview Terrace, Mackenzie Street, Edmonds Court, returning to the show grounds for a delicious lunch.  Some chit chat with all agreeing it was a great day horse riding.
The Christmas Break-up party was held once more at Humbles down beside the river, which was over the causeway due to heavy rain the previous afternoon and night.  We entertained the most property owners and sponsors ever despite the stormy weather.  There were many comments about the changes the January floods caused to the shape of the river.  As usual, there was more than enough to eat with the selection of deserts being outstanding.  Debbie Kirkwood cooked the meat to perfection on her Party Hire cookers - thanks once again Deb!  Santa and his 4 legged helper arrived to entertain the kids - thanks Jonathon!
The club person for the year was Michael Barclay, which was well deserved - thank you.  Chris Bailey retains the 'Brown Arms Wooden Spoon'!
Due to the threatening weather and concerns we may be stuck for some time, we finished a little earlier than normal.  Not before the bigger kids had a chance to swim though!
FAQ’s – For people considering joining Dayboro Trailriders this year
How often do you ride?
Every 4th Sunday of the month.  We leave the Dayboro Showgrounds promptly at 8:30am.  Riders are asked to sign on before 8am and to be mounted by 8:20am for the safety talk.
How long are the rides?  Our rides are usually between 3 to 4 hours.  We do have full day rides, which are notified in the Newsletter.  If you want to check, please contact one of the people mentioned at the end of the article beforehand.
What do I need?  A horse!  Horses need to be of a reasonable fitness.  A comfortable, well fitting saddle and tack, a water bottle and sensible, sun-safe clothing are advised.  Helmets are mandatory for riders under 18 years of age.  Manners and a sense of humour are greatly appreciated too!
What will the terrain be like?  Let’s be honest here, Dayboro is hilly and we ride up and down those hills.  There are beautiful views but you need to be prepared for the climbs.  A tight girth is a must (I can personally vouch for this!).  There will often be creek crossings with a little water in them, a bit of lantana here and there, rocky ground and narrow paths.
How many people go?  In general, we have an average of about 20 riders ranging in age from 10 to shhh!  And many in between.  There is a collective experience of hundreds of years at each ride so there is always someone to help out, encourage and make suggestions.  Hopefully, we are all open to learning something new at each ride too.
And for the ladies – what if I need to go to the loo?  We can offer a range of trees and beautiful views and someone will hold your horse while you duck to the back of the group and find a suitable hiding spot!
What happens after the ride?  Horses are tethered or unsaddled, washed down and placed in yards while we enjoy lunch and a chat.  It may be a BBQ, or salads and cold meats, but the desert is always yummy and the company good too.  If you’re lucky, you will hear our infamous bush poet share his lines while sipping your cold can.
