The Dayboro Visitor Information Centre is located at “Dayboro Cottage’, 27 Williams Street, Dayboro and, since July 2009, has been run by members of the Dayboro District Historical Society Inc on a voluntary basis, although Society members had been assisting the Tourism groups since September 2004.
The Cottage is open 7 days a week from 10am to 3pm. In 2009 there were just over 5000 visitors to “Dayboro Cottage”. Numbers were a little less in 2010, and if I am ever able to find the 2010 diary which may or may not have survived the January flood I will be able to give an accurate number of visitors for 2010. The December figures had not been entered into the computer at the time of the flood.
Dayboro Visitor Inforamtion CentreWINE AND CHEESE INFORMATION EVENING: A very successful information networking evening was held at “Dayboro Cottage” on Tuesday 8th March with 50 people present. I think some of the local businesses were a little surprised to find what we actually do at “Dayboro Cottage” to promote their businesses and the town in general. Leigh Henzell was our main speaker and spoke about his family’s connections with Dayboro throughout the years, both on a personal and business basis. Leigh’s family came to the Mt. Pleasant district in about 1905. Over the years the family, through several generations, has been engaged in primary production (dairying, bananas and pineapples) and also involved with other business and community groups, amongst them the Co-op (Butter Factory), Fruitgrowers Assn., Bowls Club, Ambulance, Show Society and Mt. Pleasant Hall. Church services were also held in the family home in the early years as there was no church at Mt. Pleasant. The family were also the proprietors of the Crown Hotel for about 15 years. The first childcare business in the district was established in “Gramma’s house” on the family farm and in later years the Henzell Chapel was built in those same grounds. This chapel is available to locals free of charge for weddings, funerals etc. and there is only a nominal charge for non-locals. Greg Lincoln also spoke about the website that he has created to assist local businesses and organisations www.dayborovalley.com.au . The events calendar which we have at “Dayboro Cottage” has been put on this site and is being added to all the time. If anyone has an event they want listed, it is just a matter of sending us an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and it will be entered almost immediately [but please check the calendar BEFORE setting your date to ensure that it does not clash with another local event]. Check out the website to see what Greg is doing for locals free of charge. It is pretty amazing. Lyn Cooley, the Moreton Bay Regional Council Tourism Co-ordinator also spoke about the assistance the Council is able to give, once again free of charge. Contact Lyn on This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it She is there to assist you in whatever way she can. Kate from Ocean View Estate Winery was also present with a number of their wines – the sparkling wine was very nice. All their upcoming events have been listed on our events calendar or check out their website on www.oceanviewestates.com.au . Cr. Bob Millar wrapped up the evening and also helped draw the raffles – 7 prizes that had been donated by some of the businesses in attendance. For those of you who didn’t make it for whatever reason, you missed out on a great evening. Many thanks to all those who assisted on the evening. TOURIST INFORMATION: New information folders have been prepared to replace the ones that did not survive the flood. There is a Wine and Dine – Local and Regional folder and a Shopping and Other Attractions folder. These are on the counter at “Dayboro Cottage” for visitors to browse through. The latest information on the Somerset Wine Trail is that all the wineries with the exception of Nirvana at Kilcoy are all back in operation. The Mt. Mee Road still has automatic traffic control lights in operation at the sites of the two landslides. The Northbrook Parkway between Mt. Glorious and the Somerset-Wivenhoe Road also has a number of landslides with traffic control in place. The only section of the Mt. Mee State Forest that is open to the public is the Gantry Day Use Area and the Piccabeen Walk. The rest of the Forestry is closed with a $300.00 on the spot fine for people found in there. This has not deterred some people as a few weekends ago the locked gates at both the Mt. Mee and Mt. Pleasant entrances/exits to the Forestry were rammed. Some visitors to “Dayboro Cottage” also seem to get a little upset when we tell them the Forestry is closed.
