IT’S YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH:
Next meeting is Thursday 15th April at the Dayboro Bowls club 7.30pm. All welcome.
Welcome to the first article for 2010. Towards the end of 2009, we
applied for a grant and were fortunate enough to receive one. We are
able to purchase “state of the art” engravers to be kept at the police
station for our residents to borrow to engrave their property. We are also able to purchase drills, so that we help residents who are unable to screw a NHW plaque to their front gate or letter box. Please phone Ken Robinson on 3425 1200 for either the engraver or help with plaques.
Jackie WallaceIf you have seen something suspicious happening in your street, please phone your local station. If you have an emergency (situations where life is in danger, a crime is taking place or in time-critical situations) please phone 000. If you would like police to attend but it is not an emergency please call police communications on 3364 6464. QUEENSLAND ROAD RULES CHANGES Fog lights – turn off in clear weather. If you drive with fog lights on in clear weather, day or night you can be fined $40.00 Single centre line – Don’t U-turn. A U-turn over a single continuous centre line is a $180.00 fine and 3 demerit points. Seatbelts – All drivers and passengers must wear them or risk a $300 fine and 3 demerit points. Drivers who smoke with children under the age of 16 in their cars face a $200 fine. Wheeled recreational devices (WRDs) – People riding a WRD - such as a skateboard - on the road at night now face a $40.00 fine. Riding on a path at night is still acceptable. People who argue that speed cameras and speeding tickets are “revenue raisers” are probably doing the wrong thing because if no-one ran red lights or sped there would be no need for these fines. Driving too fast is the single largest causal factor in death and injury. SO SLOW DOWN. The QPS (Queensland Police Service) cannot make you have a good night’s sleep before you set out on a road trip. The QPS cannot stop you getting behind the wheel after you’ve been drinking. The QPS cannot stop you picking up the mobile phone. ALL THEY CAN DO IS ENFORCE THE ROAD RULES Thank you to all who attended the last meeting. We had a talk from Karl Innes in the CIB, who spent a long time in the Rural Stock Squad. He was able to answer a lot of questions pertaining to stock. Thank you Karl. The Crime Prevention Office at Petrie Station is offering presentations to schools, day care centres and kindergartens. We do talks on Anti-bullying, personal safety and road safety. If you would like a talk at your centre please phone 3897 7260 - Sgt Kimberly Jackson. Local resident, Jackie Wallace, has completed police courses on these topics and is now able to come to your centres. THESE ARE FREE, please take advantage. Call the number above to make your booking now. |
