DAYBORO – THE FIRST 100 YEARS:    The Dayboro display at the Pine Rivers Heritage Museum will be open to the public from Saturday 27th March to Sunday 16th May.  We are still endeavouring to locate items of local historic significance to be displayed in the glass showcases, so if you have anything that you think may be suitable, please give me a ring.
MBRC PIONEERS DATABASE:    The Moreton Bay Region Pioneers database is an ongoing project of Charlie Nolan, a volunteer in the MBRC Library Service, (one of Charlie’s many projects) which now contains in excess of 85,000 names and we are privileged to have a copy of it available for viewing at “Dayboro Cottage”.  It is also available at the Library at Strathpine.  It is not an on-line database as it is very much a work in progress.  It is compiled from various sources and also from family history information that is given to Charlie by members of the public.  The information is verified as much as possible before it is entered.  It is a two way street.  If you are looking at the database and find any errors, please make a note of them so the information can be given to Charlie to make the corrections.  Also, if you realise that you have much more information in your family tree than what is on the site, please share it with Charlie.  Through this database some families are finding that they have links with other local families that they did not even know about and visitors to “Dayboro Cottage” are also quite surprised when we are able to provide them with information on their families.
COMPUTER WORKSHOPS:    These workshops relate mostly to family history research, not actual computer training.  They commence at 10.00 a.m. and members of the public are welcome but we do ask that you let us know that you are coming and that you give us some details of the research you are interested in.  There is also a $5.00 charge plus any printing and photocopying for non-members of the Historical Society.
MBRC AUSTRALIA DAY 2010 CITIZEN OF THE YEAR:  Congratulations to Alison Taylor (our Vice-President) on receiving this award for her outstanding commitment to the local community.  “Mrs Taylor has volunteered thousands of hours to various organisations, clubs, committees and projects around the Dayboro region” Mayor Sutherland said on presenting the award to Alison.  Cr. Sutherland said he believed there was not a single person in the Dayboro area who had not benefited from her commitment.
PORTION 1 PARISH OF SAMSONVALE (Terrors Paddock/Rosemount/Dayboro Township Block):  A few months ago we published the 1897 advertisement for the sale of Rosemount, the finest dairying property in southern Queensland, including a brick hotel & store and a blacksmith and wondered what the value would be today.  We don’t have the answer to that question but we have located the 1881 valuation for the property.  It was 640 acres owned by James Berry, Sugar Planter of Hamilton P.O. and the buildings were sugar mill, old sheds, houses and old men’s huts.  The land value was £65 and the buildings value was £25, giving a total rateable value of £90.

CALENDAR PHOTOGRAPH:    Terrors Creek photograph published in the Silverwood Gazette of 20th March 1909.  The hotel and store and the stables and other out buildings can be clearly seen.  Charlie Adsett’s blacksmiths can just be seen through a tree on the corner of what is now Williams and Bradley Streets (the site occupied by Craig Doyle Real Estate).  This photograph was printed as a postcard at the time and we thank Leigh Henzell for allowing us to copy the postcard in his possession, which gave us a clearer reproduction than the one we had previously.
