Don Kerr Drive
What’s been happening?
The Dayboro Scout Group has started the New Year with great promise for an eventful, and adventurous year ahead for leaders, youth members and their families. Events for 2009 saw closure by honouring and celebrating a decade of service and commitment by retiring Group Leader, Anne Winn. Pride and commitment to the scouting movement continues in 2010 with the recent investiture of two new leaders; Janelle Reilly (Assistant Scout Leader) and Moss Amor. (Assistant Venturer leader)
Recent events and achievements in scouting
The celebration of ‘Founder’s Day’ in Pine Rivers Park on February 20th saw district-scouting groups from the north region involved in celebrations to mark the birthday of Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scouting movement. Congratulations to young Joey member, Wade Kirkwood for receiving his Promise Badge, which was awarded on this special day. Recently, the cub pack joined up with Albany Creek pack to enjoy a pirate-themed full-on rafting, canoeing and swimming weekend at Brownseas in Shorncliffe. Acknowledged by all is the proud achievement of the Grey Wolf award, achieved by Lee Smart. This award requires an individual to show extensive commitment to skill and young leader development.
In January, a group of our eager scouts who had fulfilled their skill requirements to attend Jamboree, enjoyed 10 days of action and adventure at Cataract Park, Sydney. With the start of the new calendar, scouts are back in action with some scouts having already participated in a district camp, albeit a wet weekend at the Dayboro den to help them learn hike planning and preparations for ‘Green Cord’ achievement.
Another ‘first’ in a long-time for Dayboro Scouts is the sudden growth and renewal of the ‘Venturers’ who are teenagers from 14 to 17 years of age. Welcome to new Venturer Amy Hollis and more experienced ex-scouts Jasmine Kalle, Jamie Brix and William Henderson. Venturer leaders, Bev Seymour and Moss Amor are confirming a big year with promises of challenge and adventure that started with night canoeing on February the 12th followed by a night of indoor rockclimbing at the Rocksport Indoor Centre, while in March the focus will be on a trip to Blackwater, Central Qld for a Roveventure weekend of outdoor pursuits.

Special Thanks
As we all know, things don’t just happen without the generosity, skills and commitment shown by many different people. This month we acknowledge with thanks the use of cold room facilities offered by Scott and Janelle Stewart from Dayboro Nursery and Garden Supplies and also Glen Lake from Bowlak Bob Cat Hire for supplying a new sign for the front gate.
