Since mid-July of this year, the Dayboro Visitor Information Centre in “Dayboro Cottage” has been run by the Dayboro District Historical Society with all volunteers being members of that Society.
There have been 4024 visitors to “Dayboro Cottage” to the end of September which is 216 more than the same time last year.  It is very pleasing that we are getting quite a lot of visits from new local residents who come in to find out more about the district.  Many of the visitors are just out for day trips wanting to know what there is to see and do.
One of the things to do is to visit the Ocean View Estates Winery and Restaurant who are just going from strength to strength.  On 10th October at the Queensland Wine Awards, they were awarded their first ever gold medal and this was then topped by being judged as one of only 8 trophies of the show.  This was for their 09 Viognier.   Earlier in the year they were one of only 2 finalists in the 2009 Restaurant and Caterers Awards in the category of “Restaurants in Wineries” for Queensland and they were runner-up to Sirromet.  On Friday 30th October they opened their new cellar door adjacent to the restaurant.  On Sunday 15th November they have their second “Unwind in the Vines” outdoor concert – this time a jazz afternoon.  Congratulations to Kate and Thomas and the team.
If you are planning an event, don’t forget to (1) check the events calendar at “Dayboro Cottage” to make sure it does not clash with another event and (2) provide us with a flyer to put on the noticeboard so visitors can see what is happening.  You can email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
Unfortunately not all visitors to “Dayboro Cottage” are happy people.  We also at times get complaints about the state of the public toilets in Roderick Cruice Park.  This happened one Saturday recently.  The volunteer on duty closed the Cottage to go and investigate to find that someone’s idea of Friday night fun was to defecate in the hand basin in the ladies toilet.  Not to be fazed she went back to the cottage, got the cleaning gear and the gloves and went back and cleaned up the mess.  That is certainly above and beyond the call of duty and it is not the first time that one of our volunteers had done cleaning duties in the toilets.  It is a very sad state of affairs and it is to be hoped that it does not happen again.
