Well, our esteemed President Malcolm Missenden is moving on to Kilcoy, and has relinquished his position, which will be filled in the interim by Stewie Bragg until our changeover event next year. We will miss his humour and camaraderie, and the support of Paula, his wife.
DINNER MEETING: There will be no Lions Dinner Meeting for December. The next one is January.
HAVE A NIGHT OFF COOKING!
COME TO A LIONS DINNER MEETING. Pizza Night, no guest speaker this evening. Just Pizza and dinner music. When: Wednesday 25th January 2012 Where: Dayboro Footy Club. Time: 7pm. Meal Price: $13 payable on the night. (Meal Optional ) R.S.V.P: Monday 23rd January 2012
MOVIES: The October movie, Zookeeper attracted a small audience, and on these evenings we just break even as every movie costs us at least $600 to run. We managed at last to get the movie “Red Dog” for November. This is a classic Australian best-seller, and in contrast, we were overwhelmed with the attendance. Hundreds turned up, we were counting spare seats before allowing entry, and we apologise to the latecomers after 7:00pm, who were met with the “House Full” sign - the first time used in my knowledge. There was a scare with the poor quality sound for the first few minutes of the movie before it was improved to an acceptable level and we apologise for this, along with the strained cooling systems on this hot evening. I needed to call a brief meeting of the Lions volunteers to remind all of the emergency procedures. The intermission was the usual organised chaos, and Bill’s Red Dog (aka Benny, a spittin’ image of the stage star) turned up to delight the audience.
The movie lived up to expectations, and we should have provided tissues for all of the emotive tears at the end.

The movie for January is as yet uncertain, as Dec 26th releases may not be available for us. These include Puss in Boots, Happy Feet 2, or Tintin – Unicorn, or Ice Age 4 . Look for the signs in the town in early January to check which movie. These include the excellent police announcement board, and posters in the windows of Rendezvous Café and the Dayboro Café, along with the banners in Lions Park.
Lions sponsorships: While Dayboro Lions are not big on fundraising, the few events we operate in the year return a profit. This is distributed in the community, particularly around Christmas, and we have provided sponsorship for the Dayboro School end-of year booklet, the Combined Churches Community Chest which provides food and other support to the local needy, and Santa’s lollies, when the tubby bearded fella travels the streets of Dayboro handing out gifts of lolly-bags. Lions also support national and international initiatives such as eye health care in third world countries and a veritable list of humanitarian support projects. We also give logistic and physical support to our local community. We held a working bee to renovate and repair the Samsonvale tree lights that adorn the huge pine tree on Ian Kent’s farm on the road to Samford (i.e. Mt Samson Road). They have given much pleasure to travellers for a couple of dozen years now, and we feel it is a tradition worth supporting. We also will be helping the Samsonvale organisers on the evening of 10th December at the Carols Under the Big Tree event - 5:00pm onwards. Come along, and remind yourself of the timeless community around you. Make new friends, and meet old ones. The Progress Association’s Swaggies’ Christmas in Dayboro on 17th Dec is also supported. Lions help out on the evening, and also donate soft drinks for this event. Profits go towards the Dayboro Community Chest. Lions Clubs International are engaged in a public health exercise on diabetes awareness. However, on enquiring here to support this initiative, our local excellent pharmacy already has a blood-sugar and pressure testing programme in place. Good stuff, Pam and Tony. So why don’t you all give yourself a Christmas present - Go down to Tony and get a free diabetes check etc. When this is all clear, then go over to the ECU office, and buy a delicious Lions Christmas cake! Excellent value at $14 for a 1½kg cake. OR, if you prefer not to know your health condition, just go over and buy a Christmas cake and enjoy it anyway! More loan equipment, walking aids etc have been procured from a respite centre. Tom and John have inspected and assessed these, and along with other equipment they are available for cost-free loan. Lion John administers this scheme from his Hire Connection shop behind the servo. Please remember to take advantage of it, should an accident or illness befall you, a friend or a family member. Dayboro Lions wish all of the community, a joyous Christmas.
Lion Ian
