Lions presented a most successful December, in which the we made considerable financial donations to several local causes, and were involved with the logistic support of core community events. Christmas cakes sold out, and not surprisingly - Have you tasted these delicious excellent value delicacies?
After significant preparation, Samsonvale Carols were regrettably cancelled due to the forecast of more evening storms on an already sodden paddock. Pity, as it is the first time the organisers have had to do this since inception decades ago. Dayboro Lions are pleased to continue to support this excellent jump-back to rural community cameraderie which still exists in our society here. Write the event in your diary for 16th December 2012.
After an amazing attendance to see the classic Australian movie Red Dog in November, The Lions Monthly Community Cinema Movie for January needed to be cancelled. This was due to the main movie distributors - with whom we have direct accounts and a great relationship - have a policy of asking the multiplex cinemas to contract to a one-month showing of a movie. We get movies while still popular, which are returned to the vaults as they tail off main showings. Now the movies suitable for our Dayboro Lions' criteria (a family movie with no sex, no violence, limited bad language, good ethics and with a splendid moral good ending) were released on Boxing Day - which meant a "NO" to our requests from the distributors. Sensible regulars phoned or emailed This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to check, but sorry, not on. On 18th February we have TinTin booked, and on 17th March we will probably show Happy Feet 2, although "The Muppets" is also a good contender for this. Yet another cancellation - the monthly open dinner meeting for January, where Lions have been opening their doors to the community and presenting a talk and excellent inexpensive meal to all. Unfortunately, the fourth Wednesday in the month is in a state of flux at present, while arrangements are made to ensure the opportunity continues. We hope to firm up another good system of kitchen arrangements similar to which we have enjoyed from the incredible Fuzzy and Lyn for the past few years. This has given us a slow start to 2012. However, the January business meeting incorporated an annual activity plan, which identified thirty tasks which the Lions carry out during the year. Many of these are fun, all involve opening new doors as you meet fascinating locals and be involved in a worldwide organisation who are committed to the common good. Joining the Lions makes a difference IS THIS YOU?? As a member of Lions International, we are also supporting the Lions International Measles Initiative, the Lions Special Olympics support, the Sight for Kids Programme. and support for (the forgotten) Haiti homeless. That is how our membership contributions are spent. They seed massive financial support from others. As Malcolm moved on up in “them thar hills”, we are pleased to announce the return of President Stewie Bragg. Still the dynamic mover n' shaker, and we look forward to good things this year. Locally, we run a most successful no-cost Mobility Loan equipment, scheme. and the Alarm Necklace scheme we have here is of significant interest to other regions.
