Art and Play at Dayboro Kindy
As we come to the end of Term 2, we are delighted to observe the progress of each child within the Kindy program.
Art classes continue to excite the children and it’s great to watch their growing confidence to express themselves and uniquely describe what they see in their environment. It’s often quite different to what you might expect! New dress-up costumes are also facilitating creative play amongst the children.
The Dayboro Kindy believes strongly in a play-based curriculum for the children, which we call “Building Waterfalls”. Whilst some might argue that play is not “real work”, children use it as a medium through which to learn about their environment by: Exploring; Investigating; Manipulating; Trial and error; Problem solving; Improvising; and Acting out. Play-based learning is both fun and meaningful and promotes social, intellectual, emotional and physical development. It also enables children to initiate and maintain their own learning, increasing a sense of self-reliance and control over their day. Next time you see a child playing in the sandpit consider what they are learning. They may engage in sensory/tactile learning (e.g. feeling the texture of the sand); manipulative play (e.g. judging the appropriate amount of water to shape and mould the sand); dramatic play (e.g. role-playing construction worker, bulldozer operator, cake maker, etc.); exploratory play (e.g. how high they can stack the sand into a tower before it falls over); and creative play (e.g. decorating their construction with sticks, leaves and other items). If you are interested in enrolling your child at the Dayboro Kindy, please contact us on (07) 3425 1589 for further information. Alternatively, you can simply drop into the Centre anytime from Monday to Friday, 9am to 2.30pm (during school term). |
