Just a quick hello from your local brigade. Not much has been happening around the traps lately due to the weather conditions (which has been great ).
Even though the weather has been kind to us, we have still been active at the brigade, constantly training in all of the different aspects of being a rural fire-fighter. Recently crew members have done Senior First Aid and CPR courses, with a chainsaw Trim Cross Cut and Maintenance course pencilled in for June.
Training is an ongoing process within the brigade, with monthly training nights on the third Wednesday of the month. Currently within the brigade, all of our crew have been qualified for FMS (fire-fighter minimum skills) with one of our new junior crew members, Ashley Lake, just completing FMS training which was held at Dayboro RFB shed in May. Ashley will now have to do an assessment on his training which will then qualify him for fire-ground duties. Fire management is a very handy tool for the rural fire brigades throughout the State. How you, the property owner, can help us in this matter is by: 1. HAZARD REDUCTION – cleaning up piles of unburnt timber and foliage 2. SLASHING – mowing overgrown paddocks or slashing a fire break around your fence-line 3. CLEANING -clean out your gutters and make sure you have no dead vegetation around your house 4. Call your local brigade or local fire warden for any information in regards to reduction or controlled burns and permits to burn. 5. Visit online www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au REMEMBER NO PERMIT NO FIRE Brigade meetings are on the second Wednesday of each month and training on the third Wednesday. New members are always welcome. On a parting note, just remember that prevention is the best cure, and if you happen to be burning (after you have obtained your permit), let your neighbours know what you're up to. It just saves us and Firecom from receiving multiple calls from concerned neighbours. Thanks, Trevor Brown SVRFB Chairman. N.B. Contact details for our district’s Rural Fire Wardens are on the Dayboro District Progress Association’s 2010 Calendar - on the reverse of the December dates page. |
