PHOTOGRAPH OF THE MONTH:

Building No. 4 on the Dayboro “The Town of Yesteryear” Historical Town Walk brochure is the Terrors Creek Creamery.  Built in 1897, this is the oldest original building in Dayboro.
Farmers brought their milk to be separated by the steam driven machinery.  The cream was then transported to the Samsonvale Butter Factory and the separated milk was taken by the farmers back to their farms to feed to their pigs.  The building was later extended and used as the office for the Dayboro Butter Factory.  For the past few years, until the damaging floods of 11 January 2011, the building was occupied by Earth Circle.  The building can be seen close to the bank of Terrors Creek in this 1901 photograph.
FAMILY HISTORY WORKSHOP:
The first Australian Heritage Week was celebrated from 14th to 20th April 2011.  As part of this celebration our Society held a Family History Workshop at “Dayboro Cottage” on Monday 18th April.   This was a very successful day with 18 people attending, one from as far away as Western Australian – Mary Ann Baker (nee Kenman).  We were able to introduce 2 members of the Hall family (the English Halls) to each other.  Peter Hall lives at Murrumba Downs and Joan Brodie (nee Hall) lives at North Lakes.  They are descended from two brothers, Joseph (then aged 14) and Thomas Hall (then aged 9), who arrived in Moreton Bay on the “Sultana” on 1st November 1862 with their parents George Hall and Sarah Battley Hall (nee Rock) and their 7 siblings.  Sadly four months old baby Constantine died on the voyage.  We also had a Hay family descendant attend – Michelle Rowlings from D’Aguilar.
MORETON BAY PIONEERS DATABASE:
Charlie Nolan is still visiting “Dayboro Cottage” on the last Monday of each month from 10am to add local information to this database.  Visitors welcome – there is a nominal charge of $5.00 which includes morning tea.
