The number of visitors to “Dayboro Cottage” has slowly increased and the April figure (464) was very much the same as April last year (459).  We have still been open 7 days a week.
The May roster was difficult as 3 of our 10 volunteers were away and 1 was laid up for a few weeks but somehow we managed.  At the time of writing 2 have now returned so that relieves the pressure a little although another one is going away for a short time.  As you can see, we really do need more volunteers so why not think about giving a few hours of your time every couple of weeks to help promote our wonderful district.
A DAY TRIP TO DAYBORO:  Because of the problems that many of the locals have had with insurance following the January flood, we have been doing everything possible to promote Dayboro as a day trip destination, not just a 20-30 minute stop-off from the buses to go to the Famous Sausageman, the Dayboro Bakery or Hay Cottage.  We have prepared a flyer “A Day Trip to Dayboro” which is handed out to visitors to “Dayboro Cottage”.  This has also been put on our website www.dayborohistoricalsociety.com.au and Greg Lincoln’s information site www.dayborovalley.com.au.
LOCAL MAPS:  We are always being asked at the Dayboro Visitor Information Centre about local maps.  No – there aren’t any!  Dayboro District Historical Society is in the process of producing a Town Map and a Regional Map.  A number of local businesses are sponsoring this project and the maps will be available in the near future.
TERAH’S RESTAURANT:  Their new Lunch and Dinner Menus are up and running.  Can’t wait to try the Prawn & Scallop Linguini (prawns and sea scallops with a tomato, chilli, lemon, parsley, garlic and white wine sauce served on top of lemon flavoured linguini) or maybe a B.L.T. for lunch.
COME ON DAYBORO – SHOP LOCALLY!  If you take the time to check out what is available locally, you will be really surprised.
CRAIG’S COTTAGE:  Michelle and Carol have added Western Wear to their range of products.  Craig’s Cottage is open from 9am to 5pm Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays).  They stock a range of Fashion (Ladies & Childrens); Jewellery; Homewares; Kitchenware; Linen; Gifts and Skincare.  They also offer a free giftwrapping service.  This business had only been operating a few weeks when it was flooded in January 2011.
MAYA MAZE:  No, it is not closing down.  The sign was a little worrying until you read the fine print.  Karen was only closing the store for a short time for renovations to be carried out.  The move to the larger premises was done in a bit of a rush and Karen needed a little time to sort things out properly.
COUNTRY ROSE:  This store has a huge range of products from quilting fabrics to fine gifts and homewares.  It is open every day except Mondays.  It is on the corner of Delaney Road and McKenzie Street so is a little away from the other businesses but certainly should not be overlooked.
We are very fortunate to have stores of this quality in Dayboro and you will have to go a long way to find better.    All our local businesses need your support, so before getting in your car and driving however many kilometres to get that bargain, look in Dayboro first.
