Following the flooding, Lions provided logistic help at the fundraiser flood and fire concert, and cleaning up went on until 1:15am. We also gave a sizeable donation, and helped with augmenting the auction bids. A splendid event of community group co-operation.
NEXT MOVIE: GULLIVER’S TRAVELS
….More Next MonthSaturday, 19th March 2011 At the movie on 19th Feb, a good audience of mainly youngsters were riveted to the screen as Narnia was shown. We expect another good attendance at Gulliver's Travels (see page 25) on Sat March 19th. Adults $6, Family $18. MEETINGS: Dayboro Lions run a business meeting on the second Monday of each month, at which our efforts to help the community are discussed and planned. We also run a dinner meeting on the 4th Monday of each month at the Footy Club. This is a meeting open to all, and a variety of topics are presented. A meal may be ordered for this ($13), or you may just want to come along and join us for the talk. There is no charge, and no obligation, expect for the meal. We are currently discussing whether to move these meetings to Wednesdays to be more convenient to members and visitors. You are invited to the next Lions dinner meeting. Come along for a chat and if you would like a meal let me know by Monday 21st March so I can ring through meal numbers. When: Monday 28th March. Where: Dayboro Footy Club. Time: 7pm. Guest Speaker: Joe Calam talking about Machu Picchu. It is a 15th century Inca site on a mountain ridge in Peru. Meal Price: $13 payable on the night. (Meal Optional ) At this March dinner meeting we will be inducting a couple of new members into the Lions, a welcome addition to allow us to carry out the community support around the town and beyond. We continue support of people living in their own homes with equipment and care alert necklaces. We have a few in stock if anyone would like to rent one at $5 a month. No other cost. We install these for the recipients, give phone and visit support for any issues, and re-visit every 6 months to check operation and collect the fees. A visit to the 27 users is scheduled for later in March. Our computer-driven vinyl cutter is currently on loan to the Venturer Scouts to complete a banner for us. These whiz kids have quickly learned the programming of this machine, and are making the Lions a new banner announcing the movies. Clean up Australia Day is an event in which the Lions always take part, and again this year on March 5th, Lion Rob Goldstiver will again be implementing his organisation of the meeting point in Lions Park, opposite the butcher's shop.
