Well not quite - most of us were home in bed by midnight, but what a night we had! We were a very small crowd - 35 in total, so we had plenty of room to spread out and dance.
We had guests from as far away as Kingaroy who came along to enjoy the music provided by Dave of ‘JusDancin', and it was really good music - There were no problems with the acoustics at all. To watch these people dance was an absolute pleasure - the new vogue dances and all that fancy footwork left my feet in knots and I was only watching! Dave also played music for Gypsy Tap, Pride of Erin, etc for those of us who don't get the opportunity to go to dances to learn the newer ones.
It was a really special night for Taylor Perrin who was announced as our Miss Show Girl for 2010-2011. Taylor has lived in Dayboro all her life, though not many of us have had the pleasure of meeting her until last week. What a lovely young lady - and her partner for the evening, Jarrod Easlea, has certainly grown up to be a fine young gentleman. Taylor has been an exhibitor at the show for many years - Her name would come through on entry forms, but she was 'the invisible girl'. She will go to the Sub-Chamber finals next year at Kilcoy in July, to represent our Show Society. The Showgrounds is still being used almost every weekend. Sometimes there are four events going on over the whole of the Grounds - it would be a spectacular picture from the air. As many people are aware, the grant for the rebuilding of the yards and sand arena was unsuccessful in the first round. The application is being submitted again for a chance in the second round of funding. Because we cannot rely on receiving any money from the grant, the first working bee date to pull down the arena end has been set. Therefore please note that the arena and yards are out of bounds and cannot be used from 1st November 2010 until completion of the arena being upgraded. It is hoped that it will be sooner rather than later, but we have the deadline of the Rodeo next year to have it done. This will depend on the amount of help that we can muster up of course. We are hoping that some of the local tradespeople might offer to help out with their expertise and equipment (not for free of course - we will pay! If you would be interested in helping out in any way with this project, thereby benefiting our community, we would love to hear from you. We would also be pleased to hear from any local residents who might be able to spare a few hours to help, labour wise, when the working bees are on. Please phone Alison - 3425 1459, or Burn - 3425 1717, if you can assist. Please leave a message on the phone as neither of us sits in the house waiting for phone calls - we will get back to you. |
