If you are unsure about who to contact about hazard reduction issues on your property call your local fire brigade, Fire Warden or go to www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au
Remember    NO PERMIT NO FIRE.
Recently at the AGM Peter Fogg announced that he would no longer hold the position of Chairman, a position that he has held a couple of times over the years of involvement in the brigade.  This last stint has seen Peter chair the meetings for 15 or so years.  As the elected Chairman I would like to thank Peter for his involvement as Chairman in the past.  Even though Peter has hung up his cap as Chairman, he is still actively involved in meetings, training and fire-fighting.
As you are fully aware, the fire season is well and truly upon us.  Now is the time for property owners to be proactive with hazard reduction
Clean leaves from your gutters.
Trim trees close to your house.
Slash fire breaks around the perimeter of your property.
4.    Ring your local fire brigade about hazard reduction ie. controlled burn offs.
These are just a few of the things you can do to help make it easier if you do find yourself involved in a fire this bushfire season.  Prevention is always the best option.
At the brigade we are constantly training our fire crews on how to manage themselves and the incident that they are attending so that we can do the best job possible.  As a land owner you can help us out by not taking unnecessary risks ie. Lighting up fires without a permit or lighting up in high winds.
On a closing note – I hope I do a good job filling the boots of Peter Fogg.  Thanks Pete!!
Brigade meetings are 2nd Wednesday of each month and training 3rd Wednesday each month.  New members are always welcome.
Cheers
Trevor Brown
SVRFB Chairman
