Hello and welcome to my second article in the ‘Grapevine’ as Secretary of Ocean View Rural Fire Brigade.  If you don’t know me, my name is Sam Williams and I’m the really tall bloke when you visit our wonderful station up the mountain.
I’d like to start this issue with a big thank you to everyone that was involved in our thank you day for our retired Fire Warden Neville Juffs.  It was a fantastic day for Neville.
If you weren’t aware, Simon Hill has now taken over as Fire Warden for Ocean View Rural Fire Bigade.  If you need any information about acquiring a permit to start a fire larger than 2x2 meters on your property, or you would like the brigade to do any hazard reduction burns on your property, you can reach Simon on 0428 510 090.
On the brigade front, a lot has happened in the last few weeks up the mountain with the replacement of Ocean View 51 for another single cab canter from Stoney Creek Rural Fire Brigade.  It was a great acquisition for our brigade as Ocean View 51 was nearing the end of its very proud and honourable life.  Furthermore, it has increased the crew to a three man crew instead of two man.  Another big plus is that the water carrying capabilities have vastly improved on our new vehicle.
We would also like to extend an invitation to our annual AGM that will be held at Ocean View Rural Fire Brigade at 9am on Saturday the 10th of September.  We won’t be voting in any office bearers at this AGM as that only happens bi-annually.  There will also be a sausage sizzle lunch after the meeting and community educators on site if you have any questions about fire prevention and safety for the upcoming fire season.
Finally, always remember that if your ever interested in becoming a member or want more information about becoming a member then we would like to invite you to any of our monthly meetings that start at 8.30am every second Saturday of each month.
Thank you all for your time, and always remember, PREPARE ACT and SURVIVE this fire season.
