Moreton Bay Regional Council is encouraging pet owners to register their animals ahead of the start of an on-going door to door animal survey this month.
Lifestyle and Amenities spokesperson and Division Seven councillor, David Dwyer, said council would be carrying out door to door surveys to ensure pet owners were aware of their responsibilities under state government's pet registration laws.
“Registration is one of the best investments you can make when it comes to protecting the family pet,” Cr Dwyer said. “It helps us return lost pets to their owners sooner, yet recent estimates suggest there are at least 55,000 cats and dogs in the region that have lapsed registrations, or have never been registered with council. "Registration also helps fund council's animal welfare and education programs - a cost that's currently subsidised by all ratepayers including those who don't own pets. "For those who haven't registered their pet this is your opportunity to do the right thing by your pet and your community." Pet registration forms can be downloaded from www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au or picked up from any Customer Service Centre. Owners can now renew existing registrations online, over the phone, at any customer service centre or the nearest Australia Post Outlet. |
