Premier Anna Bligh has announced that Queensland will vote on 21 March 2009.
With the latest opinion polls putting the newly formed Liberal National Party in front of Labor, it is going to be very hard to retain the seat of Pine Rivers,” Carolyn Male MP said.
“Since being elected in 2001, I have provided strong grass roots representation in the Queensland Parliament. I was appointed Chief Government Whip in 2006 which is the first time in the history of the Queensland Parliament that a woman has held this position, a position that I am very proud of.”
“I was also a member of the Review of Organ and Tissue Donation Procedures Select Committee that examined whether an “opt-out” or “presumed consent” system should be introduced in Queensland. This Committee presented their findings to Parliament late last year. I was also a Member of the Parliamentary Travelsafe Committee that researched and acted on implementing safe driving initiatives for young people within Queensland including the new provisional drivers licensing scheme.”
“I believe that the main issues for the people of the Pine Rivers electorate will be:
Job security in the troubled times of the global economic crisis;
Support for growing families;
Health Services such as working with the Federal Government on the GP Super Clinic initiative at Strathpine and the $45.6 million dedicated Children’s Emergency Department at The Prince Charles Hospital which will be delivered by 2012 and will provide 12 new emergency treatment bays and a 20-bed short-stay observation unit;
Improving public transport options;
Quality education for both public and private schools. As I was previously a High school teacher, I understand the importance of providing strong educational opportunities for all of our young people;
Community capacity building – providing additional community services,” Carolyn Male MP said.
“These issues are a priority for me and are achievable as I have established good working relationships with Councillors, State and Federal Members in the region.”
“I have sixteen years active service within the Labor Party and am a hardworking member of the State Labor Government.  I have strong relationships with Anna Bligh and the entire ministerial team and as an experienced candidate, I will be able to continue to work hard for the people of Pine Rivers,” Carolyn Male MP said.
The seat of Pine Rivers was formed in the recent state redistribution from the electorates of Kurwongbah and Aspley.
Carolyn Male MP is running for the seat of Pine Rivers after the State Member for Kurwongbah, Linda Lavarach MP announced her retirement.
