WELCOME BACK
Well, what seems like an all too short  Christmas/New Year break is behind us and everyone will have been gearing up for return to work, preparing for school, keeping the weeds under control, mowing the lawns, signing the kids on for sport or for our volunteers getting ready for another year of community service.  The wonderful rains over December have certainly filled the tanks and put some good water into many of the smaller dams but unfortunately the soaking rains did not produce a lot of run off into the “big dam”. I hope you all have a good year and I look forward to working with you as the year goes by.
CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY
Your help is needed. The annual Clean Up Australia Day will be held on Sunday 7 March. It is unfortunate that this programme is required to support the good work done by Council employees but there are those among us who seem to think that our roadsides and public areas are a rubbish dump. Council has numerous sites across the Shire where community groups and individuals will turn out to help clean up our Region.  If you can spare a couple of hours between 8am and 11am, please come and do your bit for our environment and join the good folk from the LIONS, Rotary and APEX clubs, the Samsonvale Rural Fire Brigade and our other great community based  teams who are regulars with Clean Up.  You can contact either myself or Council on 3480 6666 for further details or visit the website www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au for more detail.
SOCCER CLUB BUILDING WELL ADVANCED
The major project to provide an amenities and club facilities building for the Dayboro Football (aka Soccer) club is well advanced and I am sure that, along with me, the many families in the club will look forward to the opening of this building within the next month.
IT’S PINE RIVERS CUP TIME AGAIN
The keenly contested annual Pine Rivers Cup pre-season rugby league competition kicks off its 14th  year on Saturday 13th February 2010. The first match will be played at Dayboro commencing at 6pm between Pine Rivers and Pine Central/Holy Spirit and with the second game commencing at 7.30pm between Dayboro and Samford. The second round will be held at Pine Rivers club, Mundin St, Petrie on the 20th February and will feature the battle between Samford and Dayboro for the longstanding Earl McDonald and Jack Lawson trophy.  The finals will be played at Dayboro on the 27th February. Council is again pleased to be supporting this competition with $1500 in sponsorship. The Pine Rivers Cup competition over the years has built a strong following and provides spectators with a great evenings sporting entertainment so please put these dates in your diary and make a commitment to support your local club.
BLOOD DONORMOBILE IN TOWN AGAIN    -    DO SOMETHING SPECIAL
Our good friends at the Red Cross Blood Service will be after some more of that good Dayboro blood when the van makes one of its regular visits to town on Wednesday 3rd February 2010. Blood stocks of all types are at extremely low levels after Christmas and strong donor support is sought. The van will be located in Williams Street near the Community Pool and taking collections between 9.00am – 3.00pm. For medical enquiries or an appointment please phone 13 14 95 prior to the visit or on visiting day phone 0413 153 590 for an appointment. New Donors are always welcome – remember you never know when you or one of your family may need this service.
DID YOU KNOW?
That Council has 6 libraries, and a mobile library van, servicing 162,000 members, which represents 40% of the regions population. Over 3.7 million items are borrowed each year by members who access the free library service.
