COLLECTION OF OLD DRUMMUSTER CHEMICAL CONTAINERS
Another collection of eligible poisons/chemical containers (carrying the DrumMuster logo) has been arranged for Wednesday 20th May from 8.30 am to 1.00pm at the Dayboro Transfer Station. Council will have officers in attendance and containers MUST be triple rinsed as uncleaned containers will be rejected. For more information please contact Council officer Chris Webb on 3480 6556 RECENT RAINS BOOST DAMS Widespread rain over the last few weeks has helped residents of South East Queensland keep water use at thrifty levels. The average daily consumption for Council areas under High Level (Target 170) water restrictions was 123 litres per person, down from 126 litres last week. The combined level of the Wivenhoe, Somerset and North Pine Dams is now approximately 58.8% and rising daily. The Medium Level Restrictions announced recently by the Premier, following the dam levels reaching the ‘trigger level’ of 50%, commenced on Saturday 11th April 2009. The major changes from High Level Restrictions to Medium Level Restrictions are: An additional 30 minute period for outdoor water use on a Tuesday for odd numbered premises and Wednesday for even and un-numbered premises. The commencement of an Efficient Irrigation Program for watering of gardens (no lawns) New and renovated swimming pools and spas can be filled from the reticulated (town) water supply system Medium Level Restriction information and support material is also available from the Commission’s website at: www.qwc.qld.gov.au . FREE MULCH Free mulch is available to residents during International Composting Awareness Week between Saturday 2nd May and Sunday 10th May 2009. Residents can collect up to two cubic metres of free mulch from Council’s Bunya or Dakabin waste facilities. Free loading will be offered on weekends at these facilities between 9am and 12 noon. The awareness week is aimed at promoting green and sustainable practices through composting. For more information go to www.compostweek.com.au or phone Council on 3205 0555. BLOOD DONORMOBILE IN TOWN AGAIN – HELP SAVE A LIFE The Australian Red Cross Blood Service will be after some good country blood when the van makes one of its regular visits to town on Thursday 7th May 2009. Blood is something that most people can freely give and stocks are always required for many and varied accidents and illnesses and therefore your support is sought. The van will be located in Williams Street near the Community Pool, taking collections between 9.00am and 3.00pm. For medical enquiries or an appointment prior to the visit please phone 3889 7333, or, on the day of the visit, phone 0413 153 590 for an appointment. Go on – do something special. SEASONAL RAINS IMPACT ON COUNCIL ROAD NETWORK Recent rains reminiscent of what, in the past, has been regular summer events have contributed to a significant increase in work activity for Council’s Road staff. On a number of occasions for the last few weeks up to 50 roads have been wholly or partly inundated during storm events necessitating warning signage to be put in place, sometimes for very brief periods. The wet weather has also brought its share of wash outs to our unsealed roads as well as pot holes on some of our sealed roads. Until repairs can be undertaken, drivers should drive with caution and, if we receive more rain, avoid entering any flood waters that may cross roads. DAYBORO DAY 2009 – Sunday 31st May With Council again limiting the number of official activities that make up the Annual Festival, I am pleased to report that once again ‘Dayboro Day’ remains one of the Festivals major events, attracting Council financial and “in kind” support. This augers well for a great day for Dayboro and also many of its community groups and residents. With volunteerism struggling to provide adequate resources for so many of our important community activities, can I ask all readers to dig deep into their time and energy to assist the small band of people who do most of the organising of this event. This event is now reaching mammoth proportions and does provide a significant contribution to the local economy and the coffers of some of our community groups. Remember, “Many Hands Make Light Work”. DID YOU KNOW? That reporting cases of injured and orphaned wildlife can be done 24 hours per day, 7 days a week by calling 1300 369 652. |
