NEIGHBOURHOOD DISPUTES
Council regularly receive complaints from residents relating to neighbourhood issues – the majority of which Council has no jurisdiction. The Queensland Government is currently seeking community feedback on draft laws that will provide clear and practicable ways to solve neighbourhood disputes about trees and fences. The Neighbourhood Disputes Resolution Bill 2010 is currently before Parliament with community submissions closing on the 9th July 2010. Details are available on the Department of Justice and Attorney General website –

DAYBORO SHOW 2010
This popular community event is again coming up. The country Show has, for many years, been a part of the character of most rural communities and provides new and old residents alike the opportunity to savour a unique experience in the history of rural and semi-rural living. I would encourage you all to support this year’s 55th Dayboro Show on the weekend (9th) 10th and 11th July. As a mark of the importance of the annual Show to the Region, Council is again providing $5,000.00 to assist the Show Society in staging the event and a further $500 to help the woodchop programme maintain its status as one of the Show’s most popular events. I have again arranged for a Council display/information stand to be provided and I look forward to many of you dropping by for a chat over the Show weekend.
2010 HAYS INLET FESTIVAL
The 2010 Hays Inlet Festival held over the last couple of weeks proved a huge success with thousands of local residents across the Region from Mt Glorious to Redcliffe participating in a range of activities to increase awareness of the importance of Hays Inlet to our local biodiversity. With the North Pine and South Pine Rivers leading into Hays Inlet the importance of providing and enhancing the catchment of these rivers cannot be underestimated. From open days at Osprey House to tree planting and environmental talks at Samford’s Undambi Rotary Park, the Festival provided a good backdrop to World Environment Day on the 5th June.
REMOVAL OF GUM TREE
The big old gum tree which has stood in front of Hay Cottage for many years is now in a poor terminal condition. This tree has recently been trimmed by Energex because it was growing into the power lines, but it has also been losing large limbs for a while endangering passersby and in fact Hay Cottage itself. After inspection from our arborists we have been advised it is dying and requires removal.
