LITTERING AROUND DAYBORO SKATE PARK
It has been reported to me that some users of the Dayboro skate facility next to the pool are having some difficulty in understanding and complying with advice from some parents and the police to use the bins provided to dispose of their rubbish.
Many of you will recall my undertaking at the time this facility was installed:  That if there were any problems around the facility then I would have no hesitation in arranging to have it relocated for the use of others who may treat it and its surrounds with more respect than currently seems to be the case.  The majority of the skate structure is relocatable and was purchased with this option in mind.  There are currently two other locations in my division which are being considered for a skate park, therefore, if you are the parent of children (I am told that they are high school aged students) who use this facility I would ask that you ensure that your charges are not contributing to the current littering around this complex and that they understand the consequences.  This is a wonderful facility for our area, has been mostly well respected and it would be a tragedy if the ongoing enjoyment of the majority was compromised by the silly and thoughtless actions of the minority who cause the littering.
FLOOD DAMAGE - WATER REBATE
Council is continuing to work with residents across our Region who have experienced flood damage to their homes and recently agreed to make a one off subsidy of $50 via cheque to owners of properties with confirmed flood water inundation and damage at habitable floor level and above.  The subsidy is designed to help those owners meet any extra water consumption costs associated with cleaning up the habitable areas of their home.  Council has compiled a list of qualifying properties and residents wishing to avail themselves of this subsidy should contact council on www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au or 3205 0555.
OPTUS TELECOMMUNICATIONS FACILITY
Council has been advised that Optus is proposing to establish a telecommunications facility atop the existing water reservoir at 6 Roderick Street, Dayboro.  Optus did seek local community feedback about this facility and residents within the proximity of the water tower will have received a letter from Optus consultants - Daly International.  The proposed facility is deemed to be a Low Impact Facility under federal legislation (Telecommunications (Low Impact) Determination 1997) and does not require planning approval from Moreton Bay Regional Council.  This facility is one of 39 new installations that Optus are currently planning within the Moreton Bay Region.  From my past involvement with similar facilities it is clear that the community has mixed views about certain aspects of mobile phone telecommunication facilities.  At the time this Grapevine reaches readers the submissions to Optus will have closed, however, neighbouring residents contacted directly will have had the opportunity to raise any concerns with Optus and its consultants.  Optus will advise Council of the outcome of its decision in due course.
FLOOD AND FIRE CONCERT
It would be remiss of me if I did not, from the broader community perspective, acknowledge the enormous contribution of Dr Paul Inglis and the team that worked so feverously over the last month to organise what was a magnificent concert in aid of flood victims and the McKavanagh family.  I don’t recall ever hearing of an event in Dayboro that was “sold out” many days ahead of the event, and I suspect it will be a long time before we see a similar event drawing such strong community moral and financial support.  I am sure that those members of our community who will benefit from these fundraising efforts will be eternally grateful.  Congratulations to all.
NEW 1300 NUMBER FOR UNITYWATER
Unitywater has been working towards a viable solution for Unitywater customers who live beyond the ‘local’ call area.  We have now been advised that the new number is 1300 778 478 and this number can be used for faults and emergencies 24 hours, seven days a week.  The other local number is of course still available for Moreton Bay area customers (07) 5495 3333 or (07) 5431 8333.
DAYBORO SNEAKS HOME WITH INTER TOWN FOOTBALL TROPHY
The hotly contested Samford and Dayboro clash in Round 2 of the pre season Pine Rivers Cup Rugby League competition saw Dayboro sneak home 3 points to nil in what, for most of the game, was a solid contest with a 6 all score at half time.  In a tight contest Dayboro lifted to take out the long standing Earl McDonald and Jack Lawson Trophy.  Pine Rivers defeated Holy Spirit 20 to 10 in the first game.
COMMUNITY GRANTS PROGRAM
Round two of this financial year’s Council Community Grants Program opened on 1 February and closes on 31 March 2010.  In round one council provided funding in excess of $300,000 to some 50 community organizations across the Moreton Bay Region under the 5 categories.  For further information visit Council’s website, phone 3205 0555 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
