Council has received advice from the Department of Transport and Main Roads that a section of Koala fencing is to be installed either side of Dayboro Road from around Sidling Creek, Petrie and along the frontage of Old Petrie Town.
As many locals are aware this area is a high activity Koala habitat and installation of the fencing is designed to reduce the risk of Koalas being struck by motor vehicles.
DAYBORO SOCCER CLUB HOUSE – Open for business I had the pleasure on 29th August of opening the recently completed Dayboro Dingoes Soccer Clubhouse. In a gesture to the inaugural President of the Club the building is to be known as the John Jelliffe Clubhouse. This was fitting recognition as it was in John’s company that, 10 years ago I undertook a search for a suitable location at which to establish a soccer pitch and associated facilities. A great turn up of junior players, parents and senior enthusiasts participated in the activities on the day. I was also pleased to recognise the contribution the Club and a number of its parents have made to complete the fit out of the clubhouse. SCOUTS DRIVEWAY I have recently facilitated Council’s support for the Dayboro scout group by having the entrance driveway and parade area bitumen sealed. This will provide a significant improvement to this important community facility particularly in times of wet weather. TRAFFIC ISSUES – DAYBORO VILLAGE On one of my upcoming visits to Dayboro I will be accompanied by Council’s Traffic Engineers as part of an inspection program following requests from residents regarding a number of parking and traffic related issues around the village. Some of these matters relating to site distances at intersections and the possibility of encouraging local business workers to park in locations off Williams Street to leave available parking on Williams Street primarily for shoppers and visitors to local businesses. During this visit I will also be discussing with staff the long outstanding issue of the pedestrian refuge and access from Saddleback Drive to the Village which hopefully will assist in solving the impasse with the Department of Transport and Main Road over the best location for a crossing of Dayboro Road. MAGPIE SEASON IS WITH US This is just a reminder that the Magpie season is between August and October. Research shows that magpie swooping is limited to around 100m radius from a nesting tree, so to reduce swooping, avoid the nesting zone. If you must pass the area wear a hat or carry an umbrella, but remember they are a protected species so avoidance is the best option. DAYBORO WAR MEMORIAL – CENOTAPH Some time ago Council received a request from the Dayboro War memorial Association seeking to relocate the Cenotaph, currently in the grounds of the Dayboro State School, to a location in Roderick Cruice Park. The Association has undertaken community consultation, and with the support of the Dayboro Progress Association, wanted to relocate the Cenotaph to a more public location suitable for their Remembrance activities and where locals and visitors alike can more readily pay their respects. Council at a recent meeting has agreed for this monument to be located in Roderick Cruice Park with further progress in the matter now in the hands of the Dayboro War Memorial Association. DAYBORO SOCCER PITCH DRAINAGE Council officers will shortly commence significant drainage works at the northern end of the soccer pitch in an endeavour to address problems encountered earlier this season caused by water infiltration into the playing surface. We are hopeful that these works will address a problem that has had both Club officials and Council officers quite baffled. |
