If you’re keen to make a difference this Clean Up Australia Day, now is the time to start planning.
Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland said council was proud to support Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday, March 7.
“This year marks the 20th anniversary of Clean Up Australia Day and we’re hoping that individuals, schools and businesses all get involved to make the 2010 campaign a huge success,” the Mayor said.
or the Clean Up Australia Day website:“If every person picked up just one piece of rubbish, that would be 20 million pieces collected, which just goes to show how everyone can play a part in making our environment cleaner. “Now is the time for interested groups to start registering local sites so they benefit from the support offered by the Clean Up Australia Day organisation and council.” Council provides assistance with the collection of clean-up bags and provides extra clean-up bags, bins, safety vests, signage and certificates of appreciation for participants. “For safety reasons, main and busy road sites cannot be registered with Clean Up Australia Day this year, so we’d encourage groups who have previously carried out these clean ups to consider taking on a local park or foreshore instead,” the Mayor said. “Last year, we had 103 registered clean up sites in Moreton Bay region and more than 6,560 volunteers took part, collecting more than 207 cubic metres of general waste and more than 26 cubic metres of recyclable materials. “We’re hoping, with the community’s help, to make this year even bigger.” To register a site or to find out more information on Clean Up activities see council’s website: www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au www.cleanup.org.au |
