- 27th & 28th March 2010
This year’s Dayboro Art Show – being held March 27-28 at the Dayboro Community Hall – is set to showcase an amazing collection of art both from local talents and further afield.
Now in its second year, the Dayboro Art Show is conducted by the Dayboro State School Parents and Citizens (P&C) Association with support from the Dayboro Art Gallery.
The Dayboro Art Gallery has over 30 members and showcases a huge range of local styles seven days a week between 10am and 3pm.  Many of the Gallery’s members will submit their work to the Dayboro Art Show again this year, including Joan Gerry, who has been the volunteer Gallery Convener for over ten years.

“I love being involved with the Gallery because I like making things look good,” Joan said.
“We have some really nice pieces of work and while it’s been a slow process, the Gallery is improving and growing.
While art has been a life-long passion for Joan, the last six years – since her retirement from a 26-year working career at the Royal Children’s Hospital – have seen her finding more and more time for painting.  Her paintings and pottery were a big hit at last year’s Dayboro Art Show, and her style has proved popular with visitors to the Gallery.
“I have been greatly influenced by the impressionists and I love cheerful colours with liberal amounts of paint so the paint dances off the canvas,” she said.
“I’m also doing a more modern decorative art style – abstract pieces letting the paint run and move on the canvas then sealing it with resin to bring out the colours and textures.
“They look good in modern homes and they seem to be popular at the moment.”
Joan’s collection of clay pottery echidnas and chooks were also popular at last year’s Dayboro Art Show.
“This Art Show is a really good thing for Dayboro – it’s great for the children and there really is a bit of something for everyone,” Joan said.
The Dayboro Art Show is a unique event which showcases the work of professional and semi-professional artists alongside primary school students and offers a wide range of original pieces of artwork selling at very reasonable prices.
Visitors to the Dayboro Art Show can expect to see a variety of artwork using different styles and mediums, as well as pottery and sculpture.
Proceeds from the Dayboro Art Show
support the Dayboro State School.
The Show is open 9.30am to 4pm
on March 27-28.
Admission is free.
