The St Lucia Orchestra Returns to Mt Mee on May 30, 2010.
The much- loved St Lucia Orchestra returns to the Mt Mee Hall on the afternoon of Sunday 30th May with a concert titled “Around the World in 80 Minutes”.
This is the second in the series of four Mt Mee concerts for 2010 and follows the successful Cleveland Symphony’s concert of March.
The impeccably credentialled “St Lucia” has been performing annually at Mt Mee for many years and its concerts are invariably fully booked.  Little more need be said about it!
As the title of this concert suggests, a delightful range of bright and light music from many parts of the globe will be presented – including the likes of “Brazil”, “Londonderry Air”, “Mexican Hat Dance”, “Jamaican Rumba” and many many more.  And of course Australia’s famous Qantas song by the Boy from Oz will be there.
The ever-youthful and genial Andrew Robinson will again wield the baton while the orchestra performs under the strict eye of Concertmaster Lucy Bignall.
The St Lucia orchestra is unashamedly innovative with guest artists – who can forget the concert at “Wavell” featuring the cross-dressed vocalist.  (The players themselves really struggled to maintain decorum and continue that afternoon!).
The proceedings this time will be given an interesting twist by guest artists “Crosstalk”, who promise to give an authentic sound to many of the national offerings. “Crosstalk” is a trio.  Bradley Volz is on accordion, Walter Stapf on guitar and Adam Manning on drums.  They are all professional musicians and educators with a wealth of experience spanning thirty years and their “book” covers a range of styles from jazz standards to contemporary popular and continental music.  Shades of Art van Damm?
There will be the traditional home-made country afternoon tea on the lawn at interval time that not only provides sustenance but gives the audience a wonderful opportunity to chat with the performers.
Admission is $20.00, with a pensioner concession of $15.00 and a family package for $40.00.  Booking is essential - please phone Kay (5498 2104) or Anne (5498 2178).
The concert will begin at 2pm sharp and patrons are asked to be seated and settled in comfortable time for this.
