Our successful application to the Queensland Government's Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GMBC) has enabled us to get our fledgling First Responders Group off to a flying start.
Pictured (L to R) First Responder Tarn, Acting OIC Chresten, and LAC President Marian with all the gear purchased with the $25,760.90 in grant money.
Pictured below is an example of the First Responders training using the manikin. The manikin (an ALS Simulator) is a realistic, interactive training manikin. It can be programmed to display certain “symptoms” or vital signs which mimic what would be presented on a real patient in a similar situation. In this particular situation a fall from a ladder was involved, as evidenced by the ladder, the bottom of which is visible near the bottom right of the photo. The ALS Simulator responds to the clinical intervention thereby providing feedback to the trainees so that they learn what would happen in a real-life situation. A “Trauma Pack” and AED Trainer (totalling $4464) were added to this. This paid for by savings on the other purchases and from funds raised by the First Responders at our Ambulance Week event last year.
The other purchases were a LCD TV, Blu Ray player and DVD recorder which have also proved to be useful training aids with the clarity of the images displayed and the big screen enabling the trainees to clearly see the relevant details.
The Dayboro First Responders are gaining confidence through the use of these training aids. This all means that they are able to approach real-life illness and trauma situations, with renewed confidence in their abilities to provide the advanced first aid treatment that they are now qualified for.
