DAYBORO SHOW 10 11 and 12 July PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 06 July 2009
The 54th Annual Show starts this Friday 10th July, with pony club events, local hacks and rider events and showjumping all happening at once in the main ring.
The pavilions will open from 9am on the Friday, however as judging will be happening in the Horticulture and Fruit and Vege sections, the back pavilion will be closed after 12 noon to allow this to happen.
Don't forget that most PAVILION ENTRIES have to be in the hands of the stewards by 11am on THURSDAY 9th July.  Schedules have been at the IGA and on the website www.dayboroshowsociety.com for the past few weeks.  Many have been sent to all parts of Australia, so we could well have many new exhibitors this year.
There are the CHALLENGES again in some of the pavilion sections this year, and a couple of whole new sections, Apiary - which is honey, wax etc and the CUP CAKE BAKE OFF proudly sponsored by the Dayboro Bakery.  Our sincere thanks to Scott for organising and sponsoring this section.  We hope that everyone will get behind this, so that we will have a great display of cup cakes this year.
Entries are coming in for the Championship Dog Show - We are hoping to get at least 350 dogs to make this event a success yet again for this year.
The woodchopping program has been delivered to the Axemen's Association, and the wine schedules to the local schools.  With the show running in the holidays this year the schools will need to get their entries in early.  I'm sure that the competition between Ferny Grove and Sandgate will be very fierce again this year.  Other schools that have entered in past year are Pine Rivers, Bray Park and Wynnum.
Our Rural Ambassador entrant Ms Bree Kuzma will have been judged at the Sub-Chamber finals at Imbil on Saturday 4th July, so I can't let you know how she got on.  We are hoping that she does well in this competition.  To date we have had two entrants in the Rural Ambassador competitions over the years and Alicia went to State finals and Bec came second at Sub-chamber level, so Dayboro holds a pretty good record.
We don't have a Miss Showgirl entrant this year at Sub-Chamber level, but Sarah Hill is attending to hand over the title.  Sarah has recovered fairly well from a very nasty fall from a horse earlier in the year.
Entertainment this year is fairly similar to the past - our biggest problem at Dayboro is that we don't have much flat ground, which is what a lot of the entertainers require.  We have the sheep shearing shed and animals back again, the snakes are back (hopefully I'll get to see a bit more this year), we are having the duck herding dogs (these are new - I saw the tail end of a show at Caboolture Show and am looking forward to seeing the sheep (whoops) duck-dogs doing their thing.
The mini-trotters will be at the Show on Saturday, starting at about 11am;  Woodchopping goes all day;  Team penning in the Rodeo Arena goes for both days; and Dayboro Cow Horse Club have a special event to be held in the Arena after the team penning finishes on Saturday.
The Championship Dog Show is on Saturday - on the football oval.  If you are looking at acquiring a dog and would like some more information about breeds, size, cost etc this is a good opportunity to find out.  Some of the dogs that are entered are Australian Champions and some are even imported from overseas, so it is well worth the walk down to see them.
Of course there will be fireworks on Saturday night.  Please bring plenty of warm clothing - the weather can turn quite cold outside on these winter evenings.  The pavilions close at 6pm when the fireworks start.
It is anticipated that we will have a singer at the Bar area on Saturday afternoon - to be confirmed at the time of writing.
There will be horses, ponies and showjumping happening on Saturday and horses again on Sunday.
We had hoped to have cattle again this year, but this isn't happening.  Perhaps next year.
Helicopter rides will be on offer courtesy of Capt Mike and Pteradactyl Helicopters.  Seats are $50 per person.  We will be raffling two rides during the show - tickets available from the office.  The helicopter rides will, of course, be dependant on the weather over the show weekend!
Our trade exhibits will be something to see again this year - ranging from mowers and tractors to health products, jewellery, clothing etc.  Displays will be set up by the Kindy, Historical Society, Tourism Pine Rivers, and the local branch of the CWA.
Some of these displays will not have anyone at them, but please take the time to see what is on offer.
Don't forget that the Ladies Auxiliary run the Dining Room where you can get a really good meal at a reasonable price, and there is also the takeaway section accessed from the front counter.  All monies raised in the kitchen are put back into the Showgrounds in one way or another.
The Showmen's Guild of Australasia are once again supporting us and we look forward to catching up with them again this year.
The Committee would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank every individual, business and company that has sponsored, in one way or another, the events at our Show.  Without this support we couldn't provide half the things that we do, as the running expenses each year just keep going up.  The Moreton Bay Regional Council is our biggest sponsor, and provides some of the money needed to cover running costs of the show and we acknowledge their ongoing support not only of our Show but the other Shows in this now very big Council area.
ENTRY PRICES
Friday entry fees are $5 for Adults, $3, for pensioners and high schoolers, $2 for primary school children and the littlies are free.  Saturday and Sunday prices are double this, and there are two and three day passes available, as well as family tickets.  We haven't put our gate entry fees up this year, because we are aware that money is tight for so many of us.
If you need any information regarding the show, please send an email and, depending on the time I have, I will do my very best to get back to you.
Remember Dayboro Show is where you can catch up with old friends and make some new ones in a relaxed atmosphere, and don't forget those Cupcakes!!!
