Late last month, two Volunteer Rural Firefighters from Dayboro and District Rural Fire Brigade travelled to Rocksberg/Moorina Rural Fire Station to receive a plaque in recognition of the assistance provided by our brigade to the people of Brisbane after the January flood.
On hand to receive the plaque were DDRFB Communications and Acting Training Officer Brian Marfleet and Firefighter Greg Lincoln. The plaque was presented by Assistant Commissioner QFRS Ian Mitchell, Regional Manager (Rural Operations) Bernie Trembath and Acting Area Director (Rural Operations - Caboolture Area Office) Dick Lohse.
Dayboro and District Rural Fire Brigade provided a medium-attack fire appliance and a crew of three firefighters for each of the seven days clean-up following the flood. Our crew and appliance assisted with flood relief on Brisbane's southern suburbs, in the Fairfield, Tennyson and Yeronga area.
We were not the only Rural Fire Brigade to supply appliances and volunteer crews. Clear Mountain, Closeburn, Mount Mee, Narangba, Ocean View, Rocksberg/Moorina, Samford and Samsonvale were other brigades from around this immediate area to donate appliances and crews to assist with the massive clean-up, at no cost to their communities or the government. All flood-affected homeowners were very appreciative of the time and effort given them by the boys and girls in the yellow fire appliances - and we were very pleased just to be there to help.
