- on Australia Day 2011 VOLUNTEER AWARDS
The first awards for the day went to a group of ladies who, for many years, have worked very closely together.
They were asked to come forward and stay on the stage together. Their names?
Congratulations to all of these ladies - you do Dayboro proud.
JOY WESTON, CARMEL BOND, DIANE BELL and ALISON TAYLOR JOY WESTON: Joy is heavily involved with Pine Rivers Riding for Disabled at North Pine Country Park/Pine Rivers Pony Club and also Pony Club of Queensland. Joy is currently Treasurer of Dayboro District Historical Society and Assistant Treasurer of Dayboro Show Society and will be taking on Treasurer again in 2011. She is also Treasurer of Dayboro Show Society Ladies Auxiliary. For many years Joy was also President of Dayboro Community Catering. CARMEL BOND: Carmel was the driving force behind the Dayboro Community Catering for over 10 years. She is currently President of Dayboro District Historical Society and is voluntary “manager” for the Dayboro Visitor Information Centre, organising rosters of volunteers, assisting with queries regarding the local area and with family research. She assists with the Dayboro Show each year in the Woodchopping section, assists with catering for the Show and the ancillary office work. DIANE BELL: Diane is currently the Secretary of the Dayboro Pony Club, a position she has held for many many years as well as holding other management positions for the last 20 years or so. She is a founding member of the Dayboro Cow Horse Club, Ground Co-ordinator/booking officer/cleaner for Dayboro Show Society for at least the last 10 years as well as being the organiser for competitive sections for the Pony Club areas of the Show each year. She too assists with the Ladies Auxiliary catering and other community catering. ALISON TAYLOR: Alison, as you may all know, has for this last year worn the mantle of Moreton Bay Regional Council Citizen of the Year, an honour that is not bestowed lightly. Since about 1985 she has been consistently contributing through her efforts to the local community and has attained Life Membership of quite a number of them and Alison and her husband Kevin were jointly awarded the Dayboro District Progress Association’s Resident of the Year award in 1997. Currently Alison is on the executive of committees too numerous to mention at this time - she is however President of the Dayboro Show Society Ladies Auxiliary. VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD EDNA WRUCK Edna’s community involvement totals in excess of 65 years - an amazing effort and co-incidentally she hails from the same area as the previous group of hard working volunteers. Barely out of her teens Edna was President of the CWA ‘Younger Set’ and from there was always an integral part of the community. From organising the set up of the first school tuck shop to participation in the co-ordination of Debutante Balls, to catering and even more catering. There does not seem to be a Community Group in the area that has not had the benefit of Edna’s involvement over the years. Edna enthusiastically promotes the game of Bowls having proved a natural from her introduction to the sport in 1984. Edna has been instrumental in keeping the Bowls Club financially afloat while maintaining a social outlet in the community. Amongst other honours Edna is the Patroness of the Dayboro Ladies Bowling Club, was presented with Life Membership of the Dayboro Show Society in 2000, she was awarded the Bicentennial Medal in 2001 and was named Dayboro Resident of the Year in 2010. A magnificent example to all of us. |
