- close to home for country music's rising star
“We Have Kids” now means more than just the third hit off the Regular Guy album for rising star, Rob Black.
Rob arrived home from Nashville just in time to welcome the latest addition to his growing family - Audrey Jean Black - born on 2 June. Rob and his wife Kelly also have another daughter, Abbey Joy, aged two. (pictured below) “I can’t describe the joy that being a father brings me and I can’t be more proud,” Rob said on his return from the US where he has been writing songs for new album due for release early next year.Rob’s growing family has paralleled his rise in the Australian country music scene as his first release Regular Guy album continues to achieve rave reviews, both at home and overseas. “We Have Kids” was the third release single off that album and now it’s all a little bit closer to home for Rob who Lee Kernaghan described as “one of the hottest singer/guitarists to rock Australian Country since Keith Urban”. Rob’s dream of “having paintings on the fridge and a backyard full of toys” is becoming a reality and given him the added inspiration to write songs for his new album. “This is a dream come true for Kelly and I,” Rob said. Touring Texas and Nashville, Rob has been working on his new album in the US and Australia with some of the industry’s brightest young talent. “I was in a meeting with Chris Cavanagh when Kenny Chesney just came in and sat down,” Rob said. “Nashville can be like that - so much comes down to being in the right place at the right time.” And Rob knows all about timing. While in Sydney finishing the Regular Guy album last year, an opportunity arose when Adam Brand was putting a new band together for his 2008 touring schedule. Being on the same label with a new album to promote, Rob jumped at the opportunity to jump aboard the bus and not only play in Brand’s band but open shows as well. Rob continued his 'Regular Guy' tour with Kirsty Lee Akers and has performed with the legendary Lee Kernaghan in '09. “We have some increadible talent in Australian Country Music, and I have had the privalege to work with some of the best,” Rob said. Rob recently played for Lee Kernaghan at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre as part of the 150th Anniversary of QLD Schools Concert. He has also performed at Swaggies Christmas Concert and Dayboro Day over the past few years as a local resident. Rob is now doing guitar lessons in town - refer to Rob advertisement for details. In the meantime Rob will take some time out from his hectic touring schedule to enjoy spending some time with the three most important women in his life. |
