Kindy off to a running start for 2010
The 44 children newly-enrolled at the Dayboro Community Kindergarten have wasted no time in finding their feet and are already confidently exploring the Kindy’s fantastic early education environment.
The Kindy’s stagger start system, which sees the children attending in half-size groups for part-days in the first couple of weeks gives the children a chance to get used to the environment and the program at their own pace, without getting overwhelmed or too tired. The children are now being introduced to the Kindy’s sustainability program, and are eagerly awaiting the arrival of some baby chicks. With spacious grounds allowing for indoor and outdoor play, vegetable gardens ready to be planted out, and all a child could want in terms of paint, craft activities, dress-ups, music, books and more, Kindy Director Robyn Hoban said it was a great environment for the children to explore, discover and learn. “Our greatest priority during this first term is to get the children feeling comfortable and confident in their new environment and developing independence away from home – and so far both groups are doing very well,” Robyn said. Staff started the Kindy year with some extra storage space, thanks to a generous donation from the Dayboro Apex Club which was used to build a garden shed in the sustainability yard. With further work needing to be done this year to maintain the Kindy’s grounds and program, the Kindy committee will be working hard to secure additional grants and donations throughout the year. With the Kindy at full enrolment capacity again this year and waiting lists growing, parents are reminded that they should register their youngsters’ names early on the Kindy waiting list. Children attend Kindy in their pre-prep year and are eligible to be placed on the Dayboro Kindy waiting list during the financial year (1 July – 30 June) in which they turn one. A $20 administration fee is payable at the time of registration. To register your child on the waiting list, visit the Kindy between 9am and 2.30pm, Monday to Friday. Similarly, if your child is already registered, please keep the Kindy up to date with address or phone number changes, as enrolment offers are sent via mail in the last half of the year prior to commencement. |
